More of my conversation with Max about the DD and why I may need one someday. But dont worry I have a new Cocker to get trained first! 

I finally sit down with a DD owner, breeder and club member.

And I did not have to brush up on my German. Max and his wife live and love the breed and the club that comes with it!  VDD-GNA is a group that sticks to the traditions that gave us many of the breeds that we hunt with and brag about today.

Gunner Kennels engineer, Colton, found a job that justifies having a kennel full of bird dogs. One of the many ( dog crazy) employees that makeup the staff of the worlds safest dog crate.

I stopped in Nashville to talk with Addison Edmonds. We talk about his new pup and his first pup. "Gunner" was Addisons college project. He was also why Gunner Kennels was created. We talk about dogs, children, and how that all keeps us grounded in the lifestyle that we love!

What happens when you meet  a retired Marine Corp General? You talk bird dogs, and hunting of course. I had the pleasure of spending a morning in the quail fields with Walt Boomer. Along with meeting his beloved GSPs later in the evening. A day I will remember for a long time.

Scott Miller is the resident trainer at Brays Island. Before that his dogs earned more than 700 placements in field trials. he was the NBHA Open Handler of the year for 15 consecutive years. Starting out with training and competing and wining in the Coon Dog World Championships. He then took the NBHA trial world to a new level.

Jill Koran spends her summers traveling the country. With a truck full of dogs, a fifth wheel camper and buddy to share the road with, They meet trainers, hunters, breeders and work their dogs along the way. She is on a grail quest to explore the world of bird dogs.

Bob St.Pierre joins me to talk about his last season and the upcoming event in Omaha. After a year of closures for public gatherings, Pheasant Fest and Quail Classic is returning. Tom Davis has being writing about wing shooting for over three decades. But his history of hunting started out long before. Growing up in rural Iowa in the 1960's the need for Plot books or permission, was rarely needed. Pheasants and Quail were literally at the bird feeder of his boyhood home. It was only natural that they became is first quarry. Along with his Irish Setter, Tom lived a life in the uplands, like Huck Finn lived on the Mississippi.

From a recent gift that a listener sent me, I needed to compile a list of all the dogs that have been a part of my life. So here is a not so brief history of yours truly and the the dogs that shape my life, and the lives of others.

Hands down, my trip to North Dakota goes into my top 5 all time hunting trips. What was different about this trip was, I came home with 2 birds and one of them was given to me! The real limits are the memories that I brought home. Taking an old dog out for what may be his last season. A young dog that showed me her stuff. And a inexperienced dog that showed me she is ready to step up to the plate and hit some home runs in the future. And new friends that will become old friends.

Heather and Trent Hardy are a real team. From raising their dogs, training, and hunting. They recently wrapped up a DYI trip to the Badlands of North Dakota. Camping, hunting, rinse and repeat.
